The Development of China's Robot Industry and New Science and Technology Revolution
Feng Zhaokui
Abstract: At present, the Chinese robot industry does not have a complete industrial chain, most domestic robots enterprises are still in the middle and lower part of the industrial chain. In the upper part of the industrial chain, due to the lagging core components R&D, China fails to have its own core components industrial chain; in the middle part of the industrial chain, there is a lack of large-scale backbone enterprises. As a lot of enterprises are concentrated on the lower-end part, it leads to excess production capacity of the "high-tech" robot industry and even causes the problem of eliminating the overcapacity. As the robot industry chain of China is incomplete and the technology and equipment concerning key parts and components are controlled by other countries, it results in Chinese enterprises having to purchase 80% of the robots they need from overseas or overseas-funded robot enterprises in China, despite that there is a large number of domestic robot enterprises. Therefore, due to the incomplete robot industry chain, the Chinese robot industry is far from fully exploiting its potentials in promoting economic and social development and serving the overall national strategic arrangement.
